COTTONDALE, Fla. (WDNews) — According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, one person was killed Thursday in a train incident in Cottondale.
The sheriff’s office said it assisted the Cottondale Police Department in investigating the fatal incident.
According to authorities, a westbound train was approaching Cottondale when the engineer saw an individual walking westbound between the railroad tracks.
“The engineer repeatedly sounded the train’s horn in an attempt to alert the individual and encourage them to move away from the tracks,” the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said.
Despite the repeated warnings, authorities said the individual did not move and was struck by the train.
“The identity of the individual will be released at a later time,” the sheriff’s office said.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Cottondale Police Department for its assistance during the investigation.
“Our prayers and condolences are with the family of the deceased. The investigation remains active, and additional information will be released as it becomes available,” the sheriff’s office said.
