OPP, Ala. (WDNews) — A military helicopter crashed Monday afternoon in a field east of Opp, prompting a large emergency response.
According to initial reports, the helicopter went down in an open field off Cool Springs Road, near David’s Garage. The aircraft came to rest on its side.
WDNews confirmed with officials that a helicopter accident occurred. However, no official details have been released.
A witness told WDNews that at least four individuals were aboard the helicopter during what was described as a training mission. According to the witness, there were no fatalities, although some occupants may have suffered minor injuries.
Sources also told WDNews the helicopter is believed to be from Fort Rucker, though that information has not been officially confirmed.
Emergency crews remain on the scene, and motorists are urged to avoid the area and yield to emergency vehicles.
