UPDATE: OZARK, Ala. (WDNews) — According to reports, an Ozark police officer suffered what was believed to be a broken nose and a tooth injury after being assaulted while responding to a domestic disturbance Saturday in the Hillcrest Homes neighborhood.
According to reports, officers responded to a reported family disturbance near Hillcrest Street when a male suspect allegedly refused officers’ commands before fleeing in a vehicle, leading police on a high-speed pursuit through portions of Ozark.
Reports indicate the pursuit traveled through several streets before the suspect reportedly reached speeds exceeding 100 mph. The suspect later abandoned the vehicle near the Turner Avenue and Jernigan Street area and fled on foot.
According to reports, the suspect was described as a male wearing all black. Officers established a perimeter and requested a K-9 unit to assist in the search.
During the confrontation, an Ozark police officer reportedly requested emergency medical assistance after being struck in the face. Reports indicate the officer suffered heavy bleeding from the nose, and responders believed the officer may have sustained a broken nose. A later update also indicated the officer may have suffered a tooth injury.
Ozark Fire and EMS responded to treat the injured officer. Separate emergency medical crews also responded to a residence on Hillcrest Street in connection with the original domestic disturbance, according to reports.
