DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — Two people were arrested Monday night after allegedly using counterfeit money to pay for a pizza delivery, leading officers to discover suspected forgery equipment, counterfeit currency, drugs and other evidence inside a motel room.
According to the Dothan Police Department, officers responded around 9:40 p.m. July 13 to a forgery call at a motel in the 2900 block of Ross Clark Circle.
Police said two people ordered a pizza and a man paid the delivery driver with a $50 bill. After the driver returned to the business, employees realized the bill was counterfeit. The driver then returned to the motel and found the two individuals staying in a different room than the one listed on the order.
Officers responded and identified the suspects as Amber Sparks, 43, and Gregory Speckert, 38.
According to police, officers observed suspected forgery equipment inside the motel room through an open door. Investigators were called to the scene and later executed a search warrant.
During the search, investigators reportedly found multiple pieces of counterfeit U.S. currency, electronic devices used to produce counterfeit money, forged identification documents, drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine.
Sparks was charged with identity theft, criminal possession of a forged instrument, possession of a forgery device, illegal possession of a credit or debit card, unlawful possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was booked into the Houston County Jail on bonds totaling $101,000.
Speckert was charged with possession of a forgery device, unlawful possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia, and criminal possession of a forged instrument. He was booked into the Houston County Jail on bonds totaling $61,000.
