DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — According to the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, the agency is seeking applicants to fill current vacancies for certified law enforcement officers.
The sheriff’s office said deputy sheriffs serve in a highly responsible and visible role protecting life and property while enforcing criminal laws and violations. The position requires prompt attendance, the ability to work well with others, and the ability to work as part of a team.
According to the posting, deputies may be required to work weekends, holidays, and unforeseen overtime. The job can be physically and mentally demanding and is considered a safety-sensitive position subject to random drug testing.
Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid Alabama driver’s license, and an Alabama Peace Officer Standards and Training (APOST) certification. Employment is contingent upon passing a criminal background check, background investigation, polygraph examination, and psychological evaluation. Additional minimum qualifications are at the discretion of the Houston County Sheriff.
The position is listed as Grade 19 with a pay range of $21.55 to $32.62 per hour. Benefits include Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama health and dental insurance, participation in the Retirement Systems of Alabama, and paid annual and sick leave after a six-month probationary period.
