DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — According to the Dothan Police Department, officers and Dothan Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the 2800 block of Fortner Street at approximately 4:20 a.m. Sunday, July 5, following a report of a person who had been shot.
According to police, first responders found three adult men suffering from gunshot wounds.
Police said one victim suffered a gunshot wound to the arm and is listed in stable but serious condition. A second victim suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, was treated, and has since been released from the hospital. A third victim suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and remains hospitalized in serious condition.
According to the preliminary investigation, the injuries occurred during an argument between the three individuals that escalated into at least two of them pulling weapons and firing at each other. Police said at least one apartment and one vehicle were struck by gunfire.
“There is no indication that anyone else was involved in the incident,” Dothan Police Chief William E. Benny said.
Police said the case remains an active and ongoing investigation as detectives work to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including each individual’s involvement and any criminal responsibility.
