DOTHAN, Ala (WDNews) – A Dothan man is facing multiple felony charges after police investigating reports of shots fired linked him to an armed robbery and recovered a stolen firearm, according to the Dothan Police Department.
Officers responded Monday, June 29, to reports of shots fired in the area of Carver Drive and Hutchins Street. When officers arrived, they were directed to a home in the 800 block of Hutchins Street where the individuals involved were reportedly hiding.
Police said six people exited the residence, including four juveniles under the age of 18 and two adults who are both 20 years old. During the investigation, one of the adults, identified as Brandon Tyshon Scott, 20, of Dothan, allegedly provided officers with a false name.
While searching the residence, officers discovered a firearm hidden inside the water tank of a toilet. Investigators determined the gun belonged to Scott and later confirmed it had been reported stolen in Geneva after checking the serial number.
At the same time officers were investigating the shots fired call, police were also responding to a reported robbery near the intersection of East Newton Street and Price Street. Based on the suspect’s description, investigators believed Scott was responsible.
Police said Scott was later identified as the robbery suspect and charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree receiving stolen property for the stolen firearm, tampering with physical evidence and obstructing justice using a false identity.
Scott was booked into the Houston County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
