DOTHAN, Ala.— Organizers have canceled the Under the Oaks event scheduled for Friday, June 19, citing safety concerns related to Tropical Storm Arthur and recent rainfall.
According to event organizers, community safety was the primary factor in the decision. The storm is expected to impact the area later this week, bringing the potential for severe weather, heavy rainfall and saturated ground conditions.
Officials said they considered possible alternatives before deciding to cancel the event.
The event will not be rescheduled.
Organizers said the combination of anticipated weather conditions and already saturated grounds would make hosting the event unsafe for attendees, vendors and staff. They also noted concerns about protecting public spaces from potential damage.
“We are deeply regretful to bring you this news, as we were so looking forward to gathering together,” organizers said in a statement. “However, ensuring the well-being of our attendees, vendors, and staff must come first.”
The Chamber thanked the community for its support.
