HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WDNews) — The National Weather Service in Tallahassee has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for southeastern Houston County in Alabama, northeastern Jackson County in Florida, and portions of Seminole and Decatur counties in Georgia until 3:45 p.m. CDT.
According to the National Weather Service, at 2:54 p.m. CDT a severe thunderstorm was located about 7 miles southwest of Donalsonville, Georgia, and was moving southeast at 25 mph.
The storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail.
Forecasters warn that hail damage to vehicles is possible and that strong winds could cause damage to roofs, siding and trees.
Residents in the warned area are encouraged to seek shelter indoors and remain away from windows until the storm passes.
Communities in the path of the storm include Donalsonville, Bainbridge, Brinson, Seminole State Park, Reynoldsville and surrounding areas. Houston County residents in the southeastern portion of the county should monitor weather conditions and be prepared for rapidly changing weather.
