DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — A young pregnant woman is recovering after being shot Friday night off of Campbellton Highway and South Park Avenue.
According to initial reports, the shooting occurred just after 10 p.m. near the Marathon gas station at the intersection of Taylor Road and Campbellton Highway. Emergency responders were dispatched to what was reported as a firearm assault involving a gunshot wound to the chest.
Dothan Police and EMS arrived on scene and quickly secured the area while officers began searching for a suspect, stretching crime scene tape around the business.
According to the victim’s mother in a facebook post the woman is 23 weeks pregnant. Authorities have not released the identity of any suspect, and no arrests have been announced.
In another social media post a few hours after the shooting, the victim’s mother also shared that her daughter and future grandchild has since returned home and is resting but faces a lengthy recovery. The mother stated that the bullet remains lodged in her daughter’s collarbone and the unborn child is fine
As of early Saturday morning, Dothan Police had not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting or any information on the suspect.
The investigation remains ongoing.
