DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — Southeast Health and Dothan City Schools have renewed their partnership supporting the Academy of Health Sciences and Biomedical Science at Dothan Tech, extending a collaboration aimed at preparing students for careers in healthcare.
The new agreement extends the partnership for three additional years and includes a $75,000 investment from Southeast Health, with $25,000 committed annually to support the program. Since the program began in 2019, Southeast Health has invested more than $205,000, along with significant in-kind services and donations, to enhance learning opportunities and provide students with real-world healthcare experiences.
The partnership has provided students with hands-on learning opportunities and exposure to clinical environments. Through the collaboration, Southeast Health has helped equip the program with resources including simulated patient care spaces and industry-relevant equipment designed to mirror real-world healthcare settings.
“We are proud to continue our investment in the education of future healthcare workers,” said Layton Anderson, vice president of Human Resources at Southeast Health. “This partnership has proven to be beneficial for both organizations and, more importantly, for our community. By working together, we can help ensure a strong pipeline of skilled healthcare professionals who are prepared to serve the needs of the Wiregrass.”
As the region’s largest employer, Southeast Health said it views the partnership as a strategic investment in the local workforce and the continued availability of high-quality healthcare. Officials said the collaboration helps students gain early exposure to healthcare careers while developing skills needed to pursue those professions.
Dothan City Schools leaders also praised the continued support.
“We are grateful for Southeast Health’s ongoing partnership with our Biomedical and Health Science programs,” said Ryan Richards, Career Tech director for Dothan City Schools. “Their support provides opportunities for our students to gain meaningful, hands-on experience while preparing for future careers in healthcare.”
The Academy of Health Sciences and Biomedical Science at Dothan Tech allows students to explore healthcare career pathways through classroom instruction, practical application and engagement with healthcare professionals.
