Enterprise, Ala. — The Troy City Council has approved an agreement allowing Troy Police Department to assist Enterprise Police Department in the ongoing search for missing toddler Genesis Reid, who authorities believe is deceased.
According to a report by The Troy Messenger, council members unanimously approved a Memorandum of Understanding that will allow Troy officers to join the search effort centered at the Coffee County Landfill.
The case dates back to February, when Genesis’ mother, Adrienne Reid, reported the 2-year-old missing on Feb. 16. Investigators later determined the child may have been missing for weeks before that report was made.
Adrienne Reid was first charged with filing a false police report. As the investigation developed, those charges were upgraded to capital murder and abuse of a corpse.
Enterprise Police Chief Michael Moore has said investigators believe the child was killed, placed in a duffle bag and discarded in a dumpster in Enterprise.
Under the agreement, Troy officers will assist in what officials describe as an extensive landfill search. Troy Police Chief Danny Barron said investigators have narrowed down the possible area, but the effort is still expected to be large in scale.
Barron added that several officers have already volunteered to take part in the search.
The City of Troy will cover its officers’ salaries, while Enterprise Police will provide the necessary training and equipment. The search is expected to begin next week and could last up to 45 days according to additional information.
