Argument Over Firearm Ends in Shooting, Teen Arrested in Dothan

DOTHAN,Ala. (WDNews) — A late-night argument on Fountain Street turned violent, leaving one person injured and an 18-year-old facing serious charges.

Dothan Police officers responded around 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 22, 2026, to a residence in the 1100 block of Fountain Street for a reported firearm assault.

According to Lt. Scott Owens, officers arrived to find a female victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the hand. The injury was described as non-life-threatening. The scene was secured, and investigators were called in.

Authorities said the suspect, Zechariah Quantrill Jones, 18, of Dothan, had been arguing with several individuals while in possession of a firearm.

During the dispute, Jones allegedly struck one person with the firearm. When others attempted to intervene, police say a round was discharged, striking the female victim in the hand.

Jones was located at the scene and taken into custody without incident.

He is charged with one count of first-degree assault, one count of second-degree assault and one count of attempted first-degree assault.

The investigation remains ongoing.
