DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — A nationwide peanut butter recall could impact food suppliers and institutions across the Wiregrass, including schools, hospitals and other facilities that use single-serve products.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, more than 22,000 cases of individually packaged peanut butter and peanut butter-and-jelly snack packs are part of the recall. The original recall was initiated by Ventura Foods LLC in April 2025 after pieces of blue plastic were discovered in a production filter at one of its facilities.
The FDA later classified the action as a Class II recall, meaning use of the products could cause temporary or medically reversible health effects, though the risk of serious injury is considered low.
The affected items were distributed to multiple states, including Alabama, primarily through food service distributors. Several private-label brands are included in the recall, often supplied in bulk to institutions rather than sold as traditional grocery store jars.
At this time, no illnesses or injuries have been reported in connection with the products. Local school systems and healthcare facilities routinely monitor federal recall alerts and work with vendors to ensure food safety compliance.
