Dothan, Ala. (WDNews) – Tuesday’s municipal elections in Dothan saw a historic win and several races still hanging in the balance.
Mayor Mark Saliba made city history by becoming the first to win three consecutive terms. He secured a decisive victory over challenger Jimmy McCray.
In District 4, Dave Stock defeated Josh Chapman to claim the commission seat being vacated by three-term commissioner John Ferguson, who did not seek reelection.
District 3 is headed for a runoff after incumbent Bradley Bedwell earned 47.6% of the vote with 586 ballots cast in his favor. His closest opponent, David Haight, received 365 votes. Alabama law requires a candidate to receive more than 50% to win outright.
A runoff is also coming in District 2, where Philippe Kirksey received 315 votes and Derek Tiller earned 294. Dorinda McGowan, the third candidate, received 123 votes.
District 1 shows Vivian Daniels winning by 6 points over Kevin Dorsey with 539 votes, to Dorseys 533.
The race for Dothan School Board Chair remains undecided. Julie Mullins-Turner holds a narrow 12-vote lead over Wes Grant. A recount could be possible, though it’s unclear if Alabama’s recount law applies to municipal races.
