Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded a $100,000 Community Development Block Grant to the town of New Brockton to help extend sewer infrastructure and support new business development.
The grant will help fund the installation of sewer lines to the site of the planned MAXX Travel Stop at the corner of Byrd Mill Road and U.S. Highway 84. The project is expected to boost local revenue and open the door for future development, including potential overnight lodging for truck drivers.
“This project is an important steppingstone to future development in this growing rural Wiregrass community,” said Gov. Ivey. “The travel stop will provide a significant tax revenue boost to New Brockton and Coffee County, providing resources to attract new businesses to the area.”
The travel stop will feature a 6,120-square-foot convenience store, truck parking, a deli, a dog park, and restrooms with showers. It is expected to create eight new jobs. The business will be operated by Prisha Properties LLC, which owns similar stores in Samson, Florala, and Andalusia.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) is managing the federal grant, which was funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
“This is great news for the town of New Brockton and will benefit both residents and people just passing through,” said ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell. “ADECA joins Gov. Ivey in support of this project, which is sure to have a positive impact on the town.”
