Dothan Man Sentenced to Life for Kidnapping and Stabbing on Fake Date

DOTHAN, Ala (WDNews) – Robert Lane Hall was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to attempted murder on Wednesday, June 12. The charges stem from the January kidnapping and stabbing of Matthew Angelino in Geneva County. Hall, along with alleged accomplice Shalyn Diaz, orchestrated the attack.

The gruesome incident began when Diaz lured Angelino on a fake date, driving through rural roads with Hall hidden in the trunk of her car. Once Angelino was handcuffed and blindfolded, Hall emerged, choking and stabbing him. Diaz then opened the car door, allowing Hall to drag Angelino out by the cord around his neck and stab him multiple times before fleeing the scene, leaving Angelino for dead.

Hall’s life sentence will be served in the Alabama Department of Corrections. Diaz, who was also arrested in January 2024, faces charges for her role in the crime.
