Enterprise Mayor Cooper awarded honorary doctorate from Selma University

ENTERPRISE, Ala.(WDNews) – Mayor William E. Cooper last month was awarded a Doctorate of Humane Letters from Selma University as part of the 111″h Annual Session of the Southeast District State Convention held at the Enterprise Civic Center May 13-16.

Cooper was presented the degree by Dr. Darryl Caldwell who serves as President of the Alabama State Missionary Baptist Convention and as President of Selma University’s Board of Trustees.

“I wished my mom and dad could see this,” Mayor Cooper said. “One thing my dad always said was that he didn’t want us to become educated fools. This truly is an honor. Caldwell said Cooper was recognized for his contributions to the community. Enterprise City Councilmember Sonya Rich, who attended the Gala where the degree was presented, said she was proud to witness the hooding ceremony. “It was an honor to witness Mayor Cooper being bestowed with such a prestigious honor,'” Enterprise City Councilmember Sonya Rich said. “His contributions to our city have been countless and 1 am happy he was recognized for them.

Rich also recognized Cooper during the May 21 Enterprise City Council meeting, saying “Dr. Cooper definitely has a ring to it!”

Mayor Cooper holds a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in music education. He also holds an AA Education Specialist degree in administration and supervision.
