CHILTON COUNTY, Ala. (WDNews) – A boat caught fire on Sunday afternoon in the Cargile Creek area of Lake Mitchell, resulting in injuries to three people, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).

The incident happened around 3:45 p.m. when Phillip L. McCarn, 39, of Hoover, attempted to start the vessel. The boat suddenly burst into flames.McCarn and two unidentified passengers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and received medical treatmen

Today’s fiberglass/composite boats burn very quickly, and produce large volumes of toxic smoke that is equally as dangerous.

Though it may seem counterintuitive for a water vessel, a boat can catch fire or explode just like any other vehicle. In fact, in some ways they’re more dangerous than cars or trucks—they have fewer built-in protection

Further details about the incident are not yet available.
