National- (WDNews) The 148th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show concluded on a high note Tuesday, May 14, as Sage, a 3-year-old Miniature Poodle, claimed the prestigious Best in Show title. Under the discerning eye of Judge Rosalind Kramer of High Point, NC, the show, held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, saw Sage triumph over a field of over 2,500 dogs.

Sage, officially known as GCHG CH Surrey Sage, hails from Houston, TX. She is handled by Kaz Hosaka and owned by Cathy Gauche. Competing in the final round against seven group finalists, Sage’s performance dazzled both the judges and the audience, earning her the top honor.

In a surprising turn, Hosaka, a veteran handler, announced his retirement from show competitions after Sage’s victory. With 45 Westminster Dog Shows under his belt, Hosaka leaves on a high note, his last Best in Show win dating back to 2002 with another Miniature Poodle, “Spice.”

The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, sponsored by Purina Pro Plan, remains one of America’s most esteemed dog competitions, drawing entries from across the country and celebrating the finest in canine excellence.
