$1 Million Bond Set for West Alabama Woman Charged in Infant’s Death

A west Alabama woman, Versa Mae Simmons, 68, of Demopolis, faces a $1 million bond after being arrested and charged in connection with the tragic death of an infant.

The incident occurred at Tender Years on Maria Avenue, where CPR was administered to the unresponsive child on March 25. Despite efforts, the infant was pronounced dead upon arrival at Whitfield Memorial Hospital.

An autopsy confirmed the death as a homicide, leading to Simmons’ arrest following video footage analysis and personnel interviews. Simmons is currently held at the Marengo County Detention Center, with investigations ongoing.
