On Thursday, March 14, 2024 at approximately 4:30 PM officers with the Marianna Police Department responded to the area of Edgewood Drive and Sunset Drive in refence to a black male subject chasing after a silver Nissan passenger car, shooting at it.

Officers located a vehicle matching the description in the area of Edgewood Drive and Sunset Drive. This vehicle appeared to have a bullet hole in the rear bumper. A traffic stop was conducted on this vehicle to perform a welfare check. The vehicle was occupied by a female driver and a front seat passenger, Andrew Barton. The female involved has been in a relationship with Barton.

Barton was removed from the vehicle to separate the parties to ensure the safety of both occupants. Barton has a criminal history of fleeing on foot and fighting with law enforcement. Barton failed to comply with the orders provided by the officers and began to fight in an attempt to avoid arrest. Barton was placed in handcuffs behind his back and found to be in possession of ammunition in his pocket. Barton continued to fight with law enforcement and then fled on foot.

Barton was again placed in custody and continued to fight officers while en route to a marked patrol vehicle for transport. Barton refused to enter the patrol vehicle and began to kick officers. Barton was then placed into a patrol vehicle where he began to kick the window, causing damage to the frame around the door jamb, leaving the door bent outward from the original seal.

During a search of the vehicle subsequent to arrest, a firearm was located within the vehicle, loaded, with a round in the chamber.

Barton was subsequently transported to Jackson Hospital to be medically cleared before being transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice to await a hearing.
