According to statements from Governor Kay Ivey’s office on Wednesday, March 13, the attempted cyber attack, identified as a “denial of service” attack, commenced on Tuesday afternoon. A spokesperson confirmed that while the attack caused some state wide websites to experience slowdowns, no unauthorized access to data occurred.

As the investigation continues, some state websites may continue to experience intermittent delays as IT experts work to ensure the security and stability of the online infrastructure.  The Governor did not state which websites were affected.

Cyber attacks targeting government entities have become increasingly common in recent years, with hackers employing sophisticated tactics to exploit vulnerabilities in digital systems. The incident in Alabama serves as a reminder of the constant need for robust cyber security measures to safeguard sensitive information and maintain the smooth operation of essential services.
