Dothan – A pecan processing facility is investing close to $16.6 million to create a pecan hub that will be used to process, store and distribute raw pecans.  Southern Roots, is based out of New Mexico and chose Dothan for the new hub. The company is committed to create 120 jobs with a sizable payroll of over $ 4.1 million, according to the Alabama Department of Commerce.

Southern Roots chose the site in Dothan over a site that was competing in near by Georgia.  Officials in Dothan and Houston County applauded the companies investment project.

“We are excited to welcome Southern Roots Nut Co. to our economically diverse community.  The jobs that they are creating will have a long lasting positive impact on our Wiregrass region, ” said Dothan Mayor Mark Saliba.

The company’s products will include shelled and unshelled pecans, flavored pecans and more.
